Nature For Kids is happy to present to you the second family in our Family Outing series. Meet the Miller family from Idaho! They have plenty of useful information to share with us today so read on.

1. What is your favorite family outing activity? Why?
Camping/ fishing combo! We always did this when I was little and I love to take my kids now! There are a huge variety of things to do while camping. Cooking over the fire, hiking, scavenger hunts, throwing rocks in the river/stream! And watching movies late at night (thanks to a generator and an old TV)
We also love X country skiing, sledding, running races (find a youth only fun run. They are great!) Even a good old-fashioned car wash in your front yard is great! Bobsleigh rides ROCK!
2. How has recreating in the outdoors benefited you and your children?
We live in such a beautiful world. It is fun to get out of the house and be active. The possibilities are endless when you are outside. It teaches kids to be creative and use their imaginations, breathe fresh air and become a lover of the outdoors, too. But I think the greatest benefit is QUALITY time with your kids. It creates strong bonds and great memories!
3. What outdoor destination would you recommend other families to visit?
Anywhere with mountains and water! It can be even the nature park with duck ponds if you are not fortunate enough to live nearby beautiful mountains and forests! I love Targhee national forest for its great family campsites. I love the Snake River for its floating/kayaking possiblilities and Henry’s Lake and streams and rivers nearby for its great fishing!
4. What advise would you give others when it comes to recreating outdoors as a family?
Plan it together! Give your kids jobs to help get it all put together! Let your kids help pack, plan the menus, grocery shop, help gather firewood and even cook!
5. What is something new you’d like to try as a family in the outdoors?
We all want snowshoes. And we are excited for our kids to get a little older to go on some overnight hikes!
Nature For Kids would like to thank the Miller family for sharing their outdoor experiences with us. The next Family Outing series is coming soon so stay tuned!
