Today we have a review for you parents! In January we met up with Hi-Tec at the Outdoor Retail Show. Hi-Tec makes all kinds of footwear and apparel for outdoor exploring. We wanted to learn about the new Big-Fit system they are coming out with for kids, which we will introduce to you in the future.
They offered Ole and I some Altitude waterproof hikers and two Cloud Chaser waterproof shells to test out and review. We’ve been using them regularly throughout this rainy, slushy crazy transition to spring and have been more than rough on them.
First let’s tackle the Altitude hiking boots….
They have a Vibram sole that really will never where out. It’s the same sole you see on Chacos and the five-finger shoes. It’s totally waterproof and uses the Ion mask waterproof technology. They are really comfy and light and clean up easily with a wet rag. They are true to size. We both agreed that the high top is definitely needed during this wet and snowy time of year but in the summer during day hikes we’d rather use a lighter and lower trail running shoe. But for backpacking multiple days I’d still where this in the summer.
It’s so liberating being able to jump in puddles and not have any consequences. We’ve worn them hiking on muddy trails, shoveling the snow, sledding with the kids, during our daily ruccus around town and we stayed dry and comfortable every time. Take a peek at this video Ole made. He successfully crosses a slippery log, finds a snow cave and talks about finding your “thinking spot” outside.
Next the Cloud Chaser Waterproof Shell …

They made this as a more affordable alternative to some of the pricier shells out there. It’s waterproof and breathable with sealed seams and waterproof pocket zippers. It also packs into it’s own pocket for great storage and the hood cinches down with quick draws. It also has pit zips so you don’t overheat.
For us it seems to run a little bit short on the torso and arms so if you’ll be wearing layers underneath you might want to get a size bigger. Also the quick-draws on the hood don’t seem to stay very well, over time they loosen up. There is a velcro flap that goes over the front zipper that is somewhat annoying but again if you want waterproof at a more affordable price that’s the way to do it. Sorry we don’t have a link provided to buy the shell. It comes out in the fall, so look for it then.

nice outerwear! As far as the thinking spot…right out in our backyard under some big ol trees in the summer breeze is the place for us to sit and relax and enjoy nature.

You looks like very handsome with you jacket.
Hi-Tec almost singularly focuses on developing attractive, comfortable, lightweight high-quality shoes at a fair true value price.
I definitely want of those! Here in our country it’s raining like everyday.
Those would be a valuable arsenal.
