Hey …You …GUUUYYYYS! Are you ready for a treasure hunt of EPIC proportions?
When I was little I wanted to be a part of the Goonies. These kids spent their days roaming the pacific coast on bikes looking for hidden treasure, while being accompanied by the super hot older brother, I might add.
No treasure map is needed these days…just a GPS. Magellan sent us this GPS. It’s called the Explorist GC.
We had never gone geocaching before so we visited Geocaching .com got an idea of what it was all about, grabbed the Magellan GPS and loaded the kiddos in the car for our own EPIC treasure hunt!
This video includes our families search for two different caches, a short tutorial on how to begin geocaching and a review on the Magellan Explorist GC.
Are you wanting to get into geocaching?
The first thing you’ll want to do is get a GPS. They range from $150 to $700. The Explorist GC is a bare bones GPS. It’s for geocaching only, it’s not intended for road navigation. But it does the job when it comes to treasure hunting! It’s $150.
You can get GPS units with all the bells and whistles however. Some are fully featured with cameras, turn by turn navigation, touch screens and topographic maps.
Overall geocaching is something I would recommend to anyone, especially families. It definitely has elements that are enjoyable for all ages! If you’re into geocaching leave us some feedback here or on our twitter or facebook pages!

what a fun thing to do with your family!
I use my android phone with c:geo as a gps but have explored getting a new gps such as the explorist gs or 310. Thanks for the info!
Are you kidding, who didn’t love the Goonies! We haven’t done this since last fall, especially because the weather here has been so rainy lately, but we’re looking forward to finding a few more caches this summer! The nice thing about starting out is that there seem to be plenty of local caches to find, so you don’t have to risk a long trip the first time out. Nothing worse than heading out only to discover the kids aren’t as into something as you are, so definitely start local and build up to the Goonies style adventures!
Good tip Mark. Definitely starting local is a good idea! Thanks for your comment. And I checked out your site. Very nice!
Some time before, I really needed to buy a good car for my organization but I did not have enough money and couldn’t order something. Thank God my friend adviced to take the credit loans at creditors. Thence, I did so and was satisfied with my college loan.
Geoaching is an excellent way to have adventures and great experiences. However so many geocaches out there are rubbish. I’m trying to help geocachers improve the quality of their caches so that other people have those great experiences.
