Last month Amanda and I got a chance to ride at Deer Valley here in Utah during an event held by the IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association).
Diamondback provided some bikes for us to demo for the day. We rode the Mason FS Pro 29. OH. MY. MY. I’d trade my car in for this glorious ride! Too bad it doesn’t seat 6.
Add that to the amazing trails Deer Valley has to offer (nearly 70 miles worth) and I was feeling spoiled! Now my bike feels like a piece of junk. Ignorance is bliss.
I was really impressed by this bike park and had to get a picture with my phone. Moral of the story, don’t instagram and drive kids…
While on one of our chairlift rides to the top of the mountain we chatted with Wendy Kerr, a representative of IMBA, about Nature For Kids and our goal to help inspire every kid to find an outdoor hobby.
Her eyes brightened up and she went on to tell us about the IMBA Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day. This year just happens to be their 10th anniversary of the event and it will be held Saturday October 5th! To join in a kids group ride near you or to host your own follow this link. *just a sidenote - Wendy is expecting a baby, and it was nice to see a fellow mama still enjoying her favorite outdoor activity on an appropriate level!
While on the mountain we were also able to meet Eric Porter, professional rider and Diamondback team member. He began mountain biking when he was 12. Who knows, maybe by introducing your kids to the outdoor hobby of mountain biking they’ll turn into a rock hopper like this guy…
Overall it was an amazing day spent on the mountain and it got me pumped about getting my kids out there with me. I’d encourage you all to participate in the IMBA Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day!
P.S. A big thanks to the Deer Valley Snow Park Restaurant for feeding us lunch! Yummers!
P.P.S. a shout out to Bryon with I Run Far. We met him on our second ride up the lift. He travels all over writing about people who…run far. It’s a great read. Go check it out!
