We’ve had our computer set up in the common area of our house from the beginning. It’s made blogging and video editing almost impossible with 6 of us running around the house making noise.
So we decided to create a Nature For Kids Head Quarters! We took our playroom / junk room and turned it into our new home office! We’ll be filming and working a lot in this room in the future so we wanted it to be fun and outdoor inspired! Watch the transition below…
Decorating is something I really enjoy doing. And decorating with recreation gear is even more fun for me. So much so I created a pinterest board called “Recreation Gear Decorating” I love integrating the stuff we love doing right into the spaces we live in.
I especially liked these ideas!
This functional piece makes the bike look more like an art piece than a way of transportation.
And these skate decks were repurposed nicely. Just look at those legs!
These skateboard wheels make for a rad drawer pull! This one is happening once my boys retire a board.
We had some cross country skis that our kids have outgrown and figured they’d be more useful on the wall than in our garage collecting dust. We also hung our retired climbing rope on the wall but eventually I’d like to make a climbing rope rug out of it. I made the table and the “Let’s get lost” and NFK signs. But you can get similar ones online from my friend Dev at Salty Bison. The framed poster is a print by Eric Carle. The Zion poster we picked up on our last trip there at the visitor center. The cuckoo clocks are a wee obsession of mine, so cute and all thrifted along with the globe, dry erase board and tree and barn embroidery. Our little Ava created the beloved cow picture using oil pastels. I’m sure we’ll be adding more to this room as we go.
I hope you enjoyed the before and after of our Nature For Kids HQ! We’re pretty psyched about it and plan to do a lot of blogging and filming there! Already I can tell that this fresh new environment will help inspire and uplift us while we’re working.
Do you have some recreation gear decorating ideas you could share? I’d love to hear about them! Tag us on social media, email or comment below!
